To increase ad revenues for broadcasters and publishers, Opt Out Advertising collaborated with Jet-Stream to revolutionise the advertising model with an alternative to banner ads, now effective already for over a dozen broadcasters who see increased ad revenues. According to research, viewers are 27.4 times more likely to click through online video ads than standard banners. Recognizing the limitations of a traditional advertising strategy, the focus shifted to cookie-less advertising solutions like OutStream video ads, offering a unique solution to capture viewer attention without relying on cookie consent.

OutStream video ads

The new OutStream advertising service shows advertisement videos in the broadcasters’ web pages and apps, without the need for video content. Video ads are shown without the need for cookie-consent because privacy is guaranteed and no cookies are being used, resulting in high reach.

In today’s digital world, webcasting and live streaming have become an integral part of global communication and entertainment. However, streaming into China presents a unique set of challenges due to the country’s strict internet regulations and infrastructure limitations. 

To overcome these obstacles, EPEAK Studio, a global service hub for events, marketing and process automation, used Jet-Stream Cloud, Europe’s leading streaming platform, which recently joined forces with EdgeNext, an edge cloud service provider with a physical presence within China. And now, they met on a Jet-Stream Podcast episode, where they discussed how each of the companies contributed to the successful event streaming into China.

The Need for Webcasting in China

EPEAK Studio is a global events agency that specializes in AV and live streaming, event management, and event technology. They reached out to Jet-Stream last year with a customer request to stream into China. The customer is the Entrepreneurs’ Organization, an organization based in the US that provides training to entrepreneurs, to provide live streaming services for their annual conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

The event, with one large stage and one studio, with multi-camera capturing and multi-lingual live translation, was to be streamed globally. 

Global?

But what is global? You may think that ‘global’ video platforms can reach all markets, but in reality, the are blocked, and ‘global’ CDNs can deliver in all markets, but they can’t, at least not with presence, scale, performance and capacity in every country.

China opportunities

The world is so much larger than just Europe and the USA. China alone is a market for video services of over a billion people. Interesting video streaming applications for China for example are B2C media, B2B education, commercial e-learning, marketing, sales, sports and gaming.

The one custom solution required was DVR. It is a feature that allows viewers to go back in time while watching a live stream. With the help of Jet-Stream, the organization was able to implement this feature and provide its customers with a seamless and uninterrupted streaming experience. Our team tested various implementations until they found one that fit the organization’s needs, resulting in a positive and enthusiastic response from the organization.

The live watchback service was implemented by running two custom origin services in Jet-Stream Cloud, with DVR functionality enabled. Eurovision & Jet-Stream

Since Covid, streaming became a mission-critical core part for the Eurovision Song Contest. A number of strict conditions were therefore rightly imposed. Think of streams that must always work, at high video quality, but also making sure broadcasts could be viewable as far as Australia. Jet-Stream was selected in 2021 and in 2022 by Eurovision because they were one of the few suppliers that could meet the combination of requirements.

When the 2023 contest was held in the UK, the chosen vendor could not match high performance standards set by Jet-Stream. As a result, Eurovision has decided to continue using Jet-Stream Cloud for the next three years.

EDPS wanted to webcast their congress: the Future of Data Protection, effective enforcement in the digital world. The congress was hosted by the top 100 speakers with expertise in data protection. Slash9, the production company, proposed to use Jet-Stream, because of our pro-active data protection policies. Jet-Stream was audited by a specialist, and found Jet-Stream to be fully compliant. All lights were green to broadcast the congress live, with great privacy for the audience, and with data protection for EDPS.

Slash9 sent the live streams to Jet-Stream Cloud. Here, the streams were live transcoded to high quality multi-bit-rate adaptive bit rate streams. The streams were secured and Privacy Player Pro was published on the event page. Chromecast was disabled to prevent the player from pinging data to Google. A specific Mix of Jet-Stream CDN plus European CDNs was used to make sure no non-EU service was used in the process. All logs and analytics are stored within Jet-Stream Cloud, protecting all data.
